Course Content:

  •  Definitions of working at heights
  •  Relevant OH&S legislations explained
  •  Case studies of unsafe work at heights
  •  Calculating fall clearance
  •  Risk assessment and hazard control
  •  How to select the correct fall protection equipment
  •  How to inspect equipment for condition / safety
  •  Demonstrations using  fall protective equipment  including harnesses, belts 
  •  Fall arrest devices explained
  •  Working with ladders
  •  Working on roofs
  •  Installing fixing points or anchors
  •  Practical exercises performed
  •  Assessment of student’s competence  

 Practical Demonstrations Include:

  •  Simulated workplace activities
  •  Identify the safety system of using  safety harnesses, roof anchors, static lines and handrails
  •   Recognising and preventing hazards associated with tools, equipment, static lines, working at heights, hazardous materials etc.

  •  Direct teaching and demonstrating.
  •  Small group work.
  •  Practical activities.
  •  Simulated workplace activities 

Assessment Methods: 

  • The application of competency is to be assessed in the workplace and realistically simulated worksites
  • Assessment method will be via written and practical demonstration at varied intervals during the coursenrt
